Women's Health:
A Guide to Understanding & Controlling  Menopause, PMS, Fertility, & Osteoporosis
________________

Because the majority of women age 45 and older do not consume enough nutrients to keep their immune systems up to par, they may become more vulnerable to infections, cancer, and other chronic diseases. We can provide a crucial service to our female patients as they age by recommending appropriate nutritional supplementation as a vital component of a therapeutic strategy to promote maximum immune function in later life

In order to accurately evaluate the effects of estrogen and Natural Progesterone, on Menopause, PMS, Fertility, and Osteoporosis, it is necessary to identify the sources of these two primary female hormones. Distinguishing safe and natural progesterone and estrogens from those that are foreign and carcinogenic will allow women to make informed choices.

This information will help them to avoid the unwanted effects of low or no progesterone (Estrogen Dominance) and the subsequent unpleasant symptoms associated with Menopause & PMS, the conditions of infertility & osteoporosis. Other major disorders, including breast cancer, stroke, osteoporosis & heart disease are also caused by improper levels of estrogen and progesterone.

"Distinguishing safe and    natural progesterone and estrogens from those that are foreign and carcinogenic will allow women to make informed choices."

Under the normal, healthy circumstances of a woman's monthly cycle, estrogen should be the dominant hormone for the first two weeks and is balanced by Natural Progesterone, which should be the dominant hormone for the latter two weeks.

After a woman has entered menopause, whether it is due to age or surgery (hysterectomy) estrogen & progesterone production is reduced to approximately 40% to 60% of the pre-menopausal levels. While the need for a proper balance of estrogen and progesterone are important to all adult women, it is more critical at this time and supplementation with a properly formulated natural progesterone cream.

Problems arise, however, when foreign estrogens and synthetic progesterones are introduced into the body that interfere with natural hormone production and normal thyroid function and when natural progesterone production is consequently suppressed by these environmental antagonists.

We hope to share our best Womens Products to aid improved balance and function  with you!

OSTEOPOROSIS
& CALCIUM

Osteoporosis is the most common metabolic bone disease in the United States, affecting as much as 50 percent of the population over the age of 65. Osteoporosis results in more than six million spontaneous fractures annually. These, particularly of the hip, can have devastating consequences, contributing to considerable pain, suffering, and loss of life. Treatment for osteoporosis is now more than just calcium supplementation. Extensive human studies show that Ipriflavone not only helps slow the rate of bone loss, it enhances bone density and decreases fracture risk.

META-BALANCE™ This product I have also been waiting for. I find its primary use for hot flashes and other post menopausal symptoms. I find it incredibly difficult to correct fungal problems in patients on Premarin or similar products but some patients due to symptoms need to take something safe to control hot flashes. It contains Black Cohash - a very effective phytoestrogen; HMC which improves vasomotor stability - a problem often in menopause; Vitex Agnus Castus - which normalizes pituitary secretion; Angelica Sinesis (Dong Quai) - to support female hormone balance: Dioscorea Villosa - for phytoprogesterones, Hypericum Perforatum - for its mood elevating effects; and Ferulic Acid - enhances endorphins, releases and balances autonomic nervous system activities related to menopause.

PITUITARY PLUS™-  Pituitary Plus provides pituitary and hypothalamus glandulars as well as vitamin cofactors for optimal function of this important master gland.

BIO-PMT®-  Premenstrual Nutritional Support - Bio-PMT was formulated to support the intricate female hormone balance by providing essential nutrients and cofactors involved in the cycling of female hormones and their metabolites.

NUTRI-FEM This is a multi-nutrient formula geared towards women under 40. It has all the ingredients of Basic NutrientsV with extra pyridoxal-5-phosphate, folinic acid, and calcium. It also has dioscorea, alfalfa concentrate, catechin, and GLA for optimal hormonal balancing.

BASIC PRENATAL- For pregnant and lactating women. A comprehensive supplement formulated with the special needs of pregnancy in mind and manufactured without the detrimental additives and coatings found in mainstream prenatal supplements.  Principles Of A Low Stress Diet

A diet differs from a menu. A menu is simply a list of foods to eat, whereas a Diet is a Method of Eating. The LOW STRESS DIET is designed to help you select your foods under any circumstance.

The Low Stress Diet is based upon the principle of Moderation. Although "Moderation" can have a different meaning for everyone, careful reading of the concepts that follow will leave no doubt about its exact meaning in relation to the principles set forth in this monogram.

The purpose of the Low Stress Diet is to remove imposed stresses on the digestive system and metabolic pathways of the body by eliminating excesses from the diet. It does this by taking into consideration the Four Basic Qualifications Of Food.

The Four Basic Qualifications for Food

1.  QUALITY
2.  QUANTITY
3.  NUTRITIONAL CONCENTRATION
4.  DIGESTIBILITY

Definition of Dietary Excess: Dietary Excess is defined as that food or amount of food, which exceeds the body's ability to handle it efficiently, or any food additive or other substance foreign to the body.

The Effects of Dietary Excess are Threefold

1.  Systemic Overload: When more food is eaten, digested and absorbed into the blood stream than can be efficiently utilized to serve its purpose, it still must be handled by the body. This can place stress on metabolic pathways associated with carbohydrate, fat and protein metabolism. It can also place stress on the endocrine system, because one of the primary functions of this system is to regulate the internal environment.

Various diseases are aggravated by such overloading. For example, diabetes with excess carbohydrate intake, hardening of the arteries with excess fat intake, gout from rich foods and excess protein and the most commonly recognized of all Obesity. In no case can systemic overload be considered desirable.

The LOW STRESS DIET is designed to hel
p you select you
r foods under any circumstance.

2.  Digestive Overload: When there is a deficiency of digestive enzymes and more food is taken in than can be broken down for absorption (digested), we can only conclude that the excess passes through the digestive tract as undigested food. These undigested food particles are the source of toxic end products, which are generated by bacterial action in the intestinal tract. The fat particles may rancidify, the carbohydrates ferment and the proteins putrefy. Some of the toxic end products or poisons include histamine (a factor in allergy) and guanidine (a factor in arthritis an other diseases), as well as peroxides and organic acids which may interfere with "friendly bacteria" normal to a healthy intestinal environment.

3.  Foreign Substances: The body is constantly exposed to a wide variety of potentially damaging substances. Some are products of metabolism, some are naturally occurring toxins in our food and others include the pesticides, herbicides, organic solvents, industrial wastes and food additives that have contaminated our water, food and air food, as well as some medications. One of the most important avenues of contamination is our food. In our modern environment we can probably never eliminated all the foreign substances in food, but the low stress diet is designed to minimize this route of contamination.

Analyzing Food Groups

Vegetables:

Quality:
Because of pesticides, it is important to wash vegetables thoroughly to rid them of foreign substances.
Quantity:
Usually difficult to exceed an acceptable quantity by over-eating.
Concentration:
Vegetables are not concentrated foods; particularly when eaten uncooked.
Digestibility:  Usually easily digested where gastrointestinal alkalosis is not present.

Animal Source Food:

Quality:  Generally the nutritional quality is high, provided you avoid animal source food treated with antibiotics, hormones or preservatives such as nitrates and nitrites.
Quantity:
Quantities may be easily exceeded. This is particularly true where large steak meals have become the fashion of the day. Animal food should be eaten in moderation.
Concentration:
Animal foods are a rich source of minerals, protein and fat. When eaten in higher concentrations than can be easily digested, they may be a source of toxic end products.
Digestibility:
The digestion of animal food is inhibited by a HCL deficiency.

High Carbohydrate Foods:
(Sugars and Starches)

Quality:  Natural sugars found in fruits are generally of high quality. Refined sugar with its potassium and vitamins removed is strictly a low quality food and should be avoided.
Quantity:
Since sugars appeal to the "Sweet Tooth" and are a rapid source of energy, the quantity can very easily be exceeded. Because of this, the appetite is not a good indicator for regulating excesses.
Concentration:
Sugars are the most concentrated carbohydrates we eat and can easily overload the metabolic pathways associated with carbohydrate metabolism.
Digestibility:
Sugars are easily absorbed and require practically no digestion. When sugars are combined with other foods, particularly animal foods, they interfere with the digestibility of the foods with which they are combined. Sugars can be eaten alone, but should never be eaten with animal food.

Fats and oils:

Quality:   The lowest quality of fats and oils are those that have been hydrogenated; margarine, shortening, commercial mayonnaise, hardened peanut butter, etc. Next are animal fats, which are acceptable only in moderation. The best fats are from vegetable sources, extracted by low heat methods, such as sesame seed oil, corn oil, olive oil, etc. Heat is the enemy of fats and oils. Prolong heating, such as used in French Frying in restaurants can be harmful because unsaturated fatty acids of even the best oils in the raw state become saturated and rancid. A good rule is to never reuse heated fats and oils.
Quantity:
Any Quantity of Hydrogenated Fat is Too Much! Animal fat should be used in moderation. The quantity of fresh vegetable oil, if unrefined, is self-limiting and the dictates of the appetite can be used in this respect, as few, if anyone, can really overload on this high quality food.
Digestibility & Concentration: Natural, fresh vegetable oils contain many beneficial nutritional factors, and as foods in the Low Stress Diet, are considered highly essential.

Cereals and Grains:

Quality:  Most cereal products which reach our tables have been tampered with by the addition of preservatives and use of insecticides. This is particularly true of wheat products. Whole wheat berries, whole brown rice and steel cut oats (from known reliable sources) are our best foods in this category. Remember that cereal grains oxidize rapidly after cutting or grinding, making freshness essential.
Quantity:
When wheat is ground into flour and made into bread and pastries, the quantity consumed may easily become excessive and is one of the most overly consumed foods. Fresh ground whole wheat bread, on the other hand, is self limiting and is not so easily over consumed.
Concentration:
We must remember that the refining of wheat not only removes valuable nutrients, but also concentrates the less desirable carbohydrate element. For this reason, we can only consider white flour products as concentrated carbohydrate foods, and to be strictly avoided on the Low Stress diet.
Digestibility:
Again, we have a deceptive problem because wheat products generally are easily digested. The problem here is that because of the ease of digestion of these products, we may tend to overeat them and we may never link how this can abuse our bodies. Think your way through with wheat products; don't rust your appetite! Do not exceed your digestive capacity.

You may notice the difference in increased energy, improved nerves and fewer digestive symptoms.

With the above thoughts in mind, the following are a few general rules which will help in applying these principles:

1.  Allow the appetite to dictate eating times. Do not eat except when hungry! Those with poor appetites will find their appetite will increase when sugars and starches are restricted.

2.  Eat food in whole food forms as much as possible! Whole food, as provided by nature (either cooked or raw) provides nutrition in the least concentrated form, thus fruit (a sugar food) is more desirable than the equivalent amount of refined sugar.

3.  Never combine sugars with proteins. Deserts, fruits, etc. should only be eaten several hours after a meal or in between meals.

4.  Eat Animal source foods (preservative free) in moderation.

5.  Eat raw foods with every meal. The best raw foods are salads (see suggestions).

6.  Eat small meals, but eat as often as you are hungry. Many people overeat at one particular meal, overloading the digestive process, whereas the same amount of food eaten in smaller quantities, several time per day, would not impose this burden.

Suggestions

  • Tomatoes with meat
  • Vegetable juices are excellent
  • Cabbage instead of lettuce
  • Balsamic vinegar and virgin olive oil for salad dressing
  • No Hydrogenated Fats
  • Vegetables for between meal snacks

Healthful Benefits

The Low Stress Diet aids the detoxification mechanism by taking the stress off the metabolic system. You may notice the difference in increased energy, improved nerves and fewer digestive symptoms. Bowel movement should also be improved where there has been constipation
